Once upon a time, there was a brave knight named Sir Lancelot who wanted to prove his courage and skill to the king. He heard that a fearsome dragon was living in a cave on the other side of the mountain, guarding a huge treasure of gold and jewels. Sir Lancelot decided to slay the dragon and bring back the treasure for the king.

He mounted his horse and rode to the mountain, armed with his sword and shield. He reached the entrance of the cave and saw a trail of smoke coming out of it. He knew that the dragon was inside, waiting for him. He took a deep breath and entered the cave.

He walked cautiously through the dark and narrow passages, following the sound of the dragon’s breathing. He reached a large chamber where he saw the dragon lying on a pile of treasure. The dragon was enormous, with red scales, yellow eyes, and sharp teeth. It looked at Sir Lancelot and roared.

Sir Lancelot raised his sword and charged at the dragon, hoping to strike it in the heart. The dragon swung its tail and knocked him off his feet. Sir Lancelot rolled on the ground and dodged the dragon’s claws and fire. He got up and tried to attack again, but the dragon was too fast and powerful.

Sir Lancelot realized that he had no chance of defeating the dragon by force. He decided to use his wit instead. He said to the dragon, “You are truly a magnificent creature. I admire your strength and beauty. But why do you waste your life in this dark and lonely cave? You could fly in the sky and see the wonders of the world. You could make friends with other dragons and creatures. You could be happy.”

The dragon was surprised by Sir Lancelot’s words. It had never heard anyone speak to it with respect and kindness before. It said, “What do you know about happiness? You are just a human who wants to kill me and take my treasure.”

Sir Lancelot said, “I do not want to kill you or take your treasure. I only came here to test my courage and skill. But I see now that you are more than just a beast. You have feelings and thoughts like me. You deserve to be free and happy.”

The dragon said, “But what about my treasure? It is all I have in this world. It is my pride and joy.”

Sir Lancelot said, “Your treasure is not worth your happiness. It is just metal and stone that does not care for you or make you happy. It only attracts greed and envy from others who want to take it from you. You are better off without it.”

The dragon thought about Sir Lancelot’s words and realized that he was right. It had been living in fear and isolation for so long that it had forgotten how to enjoy life. It said, “You are wise and brave, Sir Lancelot. You have shown me the error of my ways. I will leave this cave and this treasure behind and seek a new life in the world.”

Sir Lancelot said, “I am glad to hear that, my friend. But before you go, may I ask you for a favor?”

The dragon said, “Anything you wish.”

Sir Lancelot said, “Can you give me a small piece of your treasure as a token of our friendship? It will remind me of you and your kindness.”

The dragon said, “Of course. Take anything you want.”

Sir Lancelot looked at the treasure and saw a small ruby that sparkled in the light. He picked it up and put it in his pocket.

He said, “Thank you, my friend. This ruby is more precious to me than all the gold in the world.”

The dragon said, “You are welcome, my friend. Farewell.”

The dragon spread its wings and flew out of the cave, leaving behind its treasure.

Sir Lancelot smiled and followed it out.

He mounted his horse and rode back to the king’s castle.

He gave the king the ruby and told him the story of his encounter with the dragon.

The king was amazed by Sir Lancelot’s courage and wisdom.

He praised him and rewarded him with honors and lands.

Sir Lancelot became famous throughout the land as the knight who befriended a dragon.

He kept the ruby as a reminder of his adventure and friendship with the dragon.

He lived happily ever after.

The end.
